Tecmo Bowl XBLA: Bo Knows Football

Once upon a time, there was a guy so good at running the football, they couldnt accurately represent how good he was in a videogame without completely breaking its balance. Bo Jackson was not only one of the most electric NFL players ever, his breathtaking mix of power and speed also made an All Star in Major League Baseball - one of only a handful of players to ever even attempt playing both sports. The remake of Tecmo Bowl on XBLA seems to have toned him down just a tad, but hes still deadly enough to pull off a 90+ yard run, if not one of these:

Gimme One of Those

This is a GTA machinima comedy masterpiece. Its like a cross between GTA IV, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Borat, made by a guy with tourette's syndrome on a LSD and Crystal Meth binge. There isnt dialogue per say, they just keep shouting random one liners at each other. The protgaonist, Gabe Newman, greets his relatives as they arrive at the airport, and he shows them his climbing skills. Then they go for a drive, get in an accident, and go to burger shot for some #13s. Then they decide to hit up a strip club, but no dancers are working so they take turns on the stage. About this time Gabe decides he had enough, so he tries to kill them all. Realizing that they are videogame characters and as such cant be technically killed, his only hope is to get them back to the airport. You need to watch this video several times, preferably with various drugs and alchohol in your system, to truly appreciate its comedic genius.

Alan Wake: "Building The Thriller" Trailer

This trailer is disappointing to me. For starters, they go for the hard sell. Rather than show you why the game is so awesome with some nicely edited footage and great music, they try to ram it down your throat with industry buzzwords like "cinematic story driven action." Then it begins to give you major pieces of the plot - so much for the mystery - and even lists its influences. Steven King and Twin Peaks are great and all, but cant the player draw his own inferences? Do they have to be bullet points on a spreadsheet calculating the maximum market penetration?

This trailer doesnt create any suspense, and emotion, and vibe, any feeling whatsoever. We have seen so little of this game up to this point, its just feels like a huge amount of wasted potential to use one of their major launch trailers as a sales presentation ticking off features rather than to further deepen the mystery surrounding the game and create even more atmosphere. Nonetheless, the game looks very promising and Im certainly interested in finally checking it out this May.

Gears 3 Leaked Details

From Edge-Online:

"Gears Of War 3 will shake up the franchise's acclaimed cover system and feature underwater missions for the first time, Edge can reveal.

Developer Epic Games is set to evolve the combat by introducing new Locust foes with tentacle-like appendages which are capable of extending to player cover spots.

Meanwhile, the COG members of Delta Squad will be equipped with explosives that can travel beneath the ground to take out enemy cover positions, our US publishing source told us.

While the first two Gears games offered mobile cover in the form of objects like burnt out cars that could be pushed around, Gears Of War 3 will feature a heavy duty mech suit the COGs can utilise both for protection and to wreak havoc.

All of these new features will be present in the singleplayer campaign and multiplayer modes, Edge understands.

We were also informed that the game will be set during the summer and introduce a number of new environments to the series, including underwater locations. The end of the last title saw the COGs sink mankind’s last city, Jacinto, and flood the Hollow in order to take out the Locust Horde beneath the surface.

Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 demo at GDC in March showed off jungle or foliage-heavy areas, which could also make an appearance in Gears Of War 3 - Epic previously used GDC 2008 to debut Unreal Engine upgrades that went on to show up in Gears 2.

Gears Of War: Jacinto's Remnant, a novel written in conjunction with Epic, continues the Gears story from the conclusion of the second game. One story strand focuses on the island of Vectes, a former COG naval base sporting fertile lowlands, forests and a river. This setting could be ideal to show off the developer’s new Unreal Engine features were it to show up in Gears Of War 3.

Gears Of War 3 has yet to be officially announced. However, Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski is set to reveal a new game on Monday’s episode of US talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and it could be on the agenda. He was originally set to appear on tonight’s show - the same day we predicted Gears Of War 3 would officially be unveiled – but said that the change in schedule would allow Epic 'to take a couple more days to polish' its game."
