Akai Katana Shin Coming to N. America

Rising Star Games of the UK has announced the release of the previously-Japan-only Cave shooter Akai Katana Shin for North American 360 consoles. You can bet on a $40-ish price tag and some fancy extras, similar to their DDP Resurrection release (which was also playable on US consoles - pictured below). Akai Katana is expected to release sometime in the 2nd quarter of this year.

Cave has stated that Akai Katana Shin and the Xbox live Japan-only release of Mushihimesama HD may very well be the last 360 shmups ever released. The good news is that they are considering releasing their entire library for PC.

In other news, I purchased a copy of Mushi Futari Limited Edition from a strange gentleman on the Shmups forums and, instead of simply marking it as "sold" in the thread, he posted this:

I'm suddenly having the urge to change my username from "Mdsfx" to "Mxpx"...

Whoa, I didnt know anything about this game but from that trailer it looks fantastic, like a sidescrolling Mushi almost. Im definitely going to pick it up.

Hopefully when Cave says they wont be releasing anymore games on the 360, they say that because they are now developing games for next gen hardware which would otherwise melt the 360 instantly.

That SHMUPs forum is great, its really one of the better communities Ive ever been apart of on the internet, just because people are so intense on there. SHMUPs are such a great alternative to the Skyrims and SWTORs of the world, but I guess they will always remain a niche genre. As long as I have my Dreamcast, my 360, MAME running on PC, and my custom MD Galaxy arcade stick, I will be a SHMUPs addict - even if Im not quite as hardcore as dat boss ass niggah mxpx!

lol did you ever check out DoDonPachi Resurrection Deluxe Edition? There is one on ebay right now for $35 from Florida.

Akai Katana looks like an alternate reality Progear. I have the 360 demo on my JP account. It's pretty awesome.

And cave is definitely developing for next gen. They've confirmed it :)

Does that arcade stick STILL work??

Darth, do you need help obtaining a copy of Mushi?

How is DoDonPachi Resurrection considered among the other Donpachi games? Was it originally an iPhone game? Im a little confused about its lineage.

Also have you hitogata happa hitogata happa hitogata happa, hitogata happa? Or did hitogata happa hitogata happa your hitogata happa?

:-)

DDP Resurrection (called Daifukkatsu in Japan) is a little crazy. You can use your hyper to bullet-cancel which gives the game every excuse to throw impossible bullet patterns at you, making you cancel them. I do prefer bullet-dogging-only games, but this one is still pretty great. It was arcade game first which they then ported to Japanese 360, then to iPhone, then the J-360 version was localized to UK/US.

I have never even heard of Hitogata Happa until I just looked it up. Looks pretty fun actually...

OK, thanks for the info about DDPR...

The guys on the SHMUPs forum seem to really like Hitogata Happa, even calling it one of the best doujin SHMUPs, but apparently its insane and totally confusing - the only way to kill some of the bosses is to kamikaze them!

However, its comes in a bundle with two other games, by the same developer, on Steam of all places, and the bundle only costs $10, and one of the games has online coop. Seeing as though most of the import indie games are like $20-30 each, it seems like a pretty ridiculous deal. Ive been busy this week but will probably pull the trigger this weekend.
