HD Starcraft 2 IdrA v Drewbie p1/4

Pretty epic Zerg vs Terran match by two very high level players. I recommend watching the complete match (4 videos) in 1080P quality in fullscreen mode. The HD Starcraft announcer guy gets pretty excited although to his credit he knows the game very well and does provide good commentary. Watch the match closely and read the chat between the two players regarding game balance - in light of the final results it certainly makes for an interesting discussion.

Is this the video where a drone becomes an extractor?

nope, different one. But Drewbie was in a position to annihilate IdrA, who is one of the top Zerg players. But he probably didn't even knew...

Bender that video you mentioned is hilarious, its not really a great game but more of an oddity where the game is a draw, and both players have to find a difficult solution to end the game as there are no draws in Starcraft. Depending on your inclinations it might be more or less entertaining than the epic Idra vs Drewbie video I posted. Ill post the link a bit further down if anyone is interested in watching it.

To make a chess comparison, the Ida vs Drewbie match is like two Grand Masters involved in an epic midgame duel, where both players have all their pieces and complex opportunities for a checkmate are available to both players at varying times.

In The Drone Became an Extractor, its like 5 minute speed chess where the players trade all their pieces in the first 60 seconds of the match, only to run around the board with one king and one pawn each for 3minutes and 59 seconds. Hilarious and entertaining the first time you see it, but Ive watched the Idra vs Drewbie match 3times already and Im still finding new things each time I watch it.

The main thing I take from Drewbie is that the Terran infantry, fully upgraded and with a handful of medivacs hovering over it, is truly a force to be reckoned with. You dont have to micro your units like crazy or even attack all that often, just defend your mineral lines and hit the unit cap ASAP.

Idra's play from this match suggests that to play the Zerg effectively, you have to play incredibly agressively from the start of the game, attacking constantly and expanding constantly, all while scouting ahead of time so that you are sending the proper counter-units. The Zerg doesnt have an "all purpose" unit like the Marine, the Thor or the Battlecruiser that you can just spam at the end of the game. They have specialized units with specialized abilities, and it requires tons of planning and proper micro to surround your enemies and defeat them. Idra isnt afraid to build a huge army and lose it trying to run his opponent off the map, he just takes a ton of extra bases and makes a new army in 45 seconds.

I dont think the Zerg, or The Protoss, or the Terran are unbalanced - but I do think that it requires a lot more skill to play well as a Zerg player, especially in the late game. Personally Im still playing as Terran as I think its the easiest to learn and play, and at my level I need all the help I can get.
